Lesson 4
In Lesson 3, you applied the Basics to codependency—learning to identify triggers, regulate your caretaking impulse, and begin building a relationship with your own internal experience. Those are essential tools, but they work primarily at the level of conscious awareness: you notice the codependent impulse, you intervene. The Intermediate course goes deeper, teaching you why the enmeshment response hijacks you before you even know what happened.
The Psychological Foundations: Intermediate course introduces the brain's symbolic processing system—how it assigns meaning to experiences in approximately 12 milliseconds, before conscious thought has any chance to intervene. You will learn about symbology, symbolic misattribution, and the critical distinction between content and process. For codependency, this is transformative: it explains why a partner's sigh can trigger a full caretaking spiral, why certain people activate your enmeshment even when they have done nothing wrong, and why knowing you should "let go" does not stop you from holding on.
Complete the Intermediate course, then return here for Lesson 5, where you will use these deeper frameworks to trace codependency to its actual symbolic roots and begin the process of rewiring the automatic associations that drive your compulsive caretaking.
Required Course
8 lessons · Master symbology, symbolic misattribution, and the distinction between content and process.
After completing the Intermediate course, you will understand the hidden machinery beneath your codependent responses. In Lesson 5, you'll apply that understanding—using chain analysis to trace enmeshment spirals to their origin, practicing cognitive restructuring to challenge codependent beliefs, and beginning the work of rewiring the symbolic associations that keep your self-abandonment on autopilot.
