Lesson 6
You have come a long way. In Lesson 3, you built the foundational awareness to notice what your mind is doing in real time. In Lesson 4, you learned to separate pain from suffering—to see them as two different things requiring two different responses. In Lesson 5, you worked with both directly: reducing suffering through Chain Analysis and Cognitive Defusion, and processing pain through the Empty Chair technique and Continuing Bonds.
Those tools work. They address specific thoughts, specific spirals, specific episodes of grief. But if you have been using them, you may have started to notice something: certain patterns keep returning. The same type of thought hooks you again and again. The same kind of loss hits harder than it should. The same belief—about yourself, about what you deserve, about whether people stay—keeps showing up underneath the grief, shaping it in ways that feel bigger than this one loss.
That is because grief does not happen in a vacuum. It lands on top of everything you already believe about yourself and the world. If you carry a deep belief like "I am not strong enough to handle this," your grief will feel unmanageable—not because it actually is, but because that belief is filtering every wave through a lens of helplessness. If you carry "People always leave," then this specific loss stops being about this specific person and becomes confirmation of something you have always feared.
The Advanced course goes into these deeper layers—the core beliefs, identity structures, and relational patterns that were formed long before this loss but that profoundly shape how you experience it. This is not about making the pain smaller. It is about making sure you are grieving the actual loss, rather than grieving through the distorted lens of beliefs that were never true in the first place. When those deep structures become visible, grief becomes clearer, more honest, and ultimately more healable.
Take your time with the Advanced course. It asks you to look at things about yourself that may have been operating quietly for years. That work is worth doing—not just for grief, but for everything that comes after. When you are ready, Lesson 7 will bring everything together.
Required Course
8 lessons · Uncover the core beliefs and identity patterns that shape how you grieve—so you can heal the loss itself, not a distorted version of it.
After completing the Advanced course, you will understand what has been shaping your grief from beneath—the beliefs about yourself that made certain parts of this loss feel unbearable, and the patterns that kept pulling you back into suffering even when you had the tools to interrupt it. In Lesson 7, you will bring everything together: clarifying what matters to you now, honoring what you have lost, and building a life that carries the love forward.
