Lesson 2

    Healing Through Life Changes

    Lesson 2

    Learning to Notice

Lesson 1 gave you the theoretical map of what happens during major life transitions—why your assumptions shatter, what distinguishes crisis from ordinary stress, and why the upheaval contains both danger and opportunity. But understanding these concepts intellectually is not the same as being able to work with them when you are in the middle of the storm. To do that, you need a foundational set of psychological skills that most people have never been taught: the ability to notice your own emotional responses as they happen, to understand what your emotions are actually telling you, and to regulate your internal state without defaulting to panic, denial, or numbing.

The Psychological Foundations: Basics course is where that training begins. It covers eight essential lessons—from the case for why healing matters, to how emotions function as information, to the mechanics of emotional regulation. For someone navigating a major life change, these skills are especially critical because transitions generate enormous emotional noise—fear, grief, anger, relief, guilt, excitement, dread—often all at once. Learning to notice and name these emotions, rather than being swept away by them, is the difference between reacting to the change and responding to it.

Complete the Basics course, then return here for Lesson 3, where you will apply everything you have learned directly to your life transition—and begin to see the change not just as something to survive but as an opportunity to examine your life with the clarity that only upheaval can provide.
