The goal isn't to feel no anxiety—it's to stay present with the anxiety and learn it decreases naturally. These strategies help:
Lean Into It: Instead of fighting anxiety, lean into it. Say to yourself "Bring it on" or "Let me feel this fully." Paradoxically, accepting anxiety often reduces it faster than resisting.
Stay Present: Anxiety often involves catastrophic future predictions. Anchor yourself in the present moment. What's actually happening right now? Usually, right now, you're okay.
Use Grounding: Notice 5 things you can see, 4 you can hear, 3 you can touch, 2 you can smell, 1 you can taste. This brings you back to the present.
Breathe Slowly: If hyperventilating, slow your breathing (4 counts in, 6 counts out). But don't use breathing as an escape—use it to stay in the situation longer.
Remind Yourself: "This feeling is temporary. Anxiety always passes. I've survived this before. I'm choosing to be here to learn."
