    Brainspotting

A technique using eye positioning to access brainspots—areas of the brain that subconsciously store trauma—allowing for the subconscious release of stuck emotions. Read a more in-depth explanation to understand Brainspotting here.

    Benefits

    • Processes emotions that are not within your conscious awareness
    • Uses eye positioning to access and release subconscious trauma
    • Works with the body's natural processing system
    • Offers multiple methods including calm spot approach for safer processing

    Why This Works

    • Eye positions are neurologically connected to specific brain areas where trauma is stored.
    • The position of the eyes while accessing a brainspot allows for subconscious release of stuck emotions.
    • Trying to control the process prevents it from being effective—letting go allows natural processing.
    • The body-focused nature ensures trauma is processed somatically, not just cognitively.

    Important Considerations

    • Accessing the subconscious can bring up intense emotions and distress—use caution if your typical state is highly dysregulated.
    • Three methods exist: standard brainspotting (find most activated spot), one-eye method (use less activated eye first), and calm spot method (find most calm position).
    • The calm spot method is safer as it increases feelings of calm rather than bringing up distressing feelings.
    • Seeking a professional is critical when working through extreme distress.

    Speed
    1. 1Bring up something specific to work through or scan your body for any activation (anything other than feeling calm).
    2. 2Move your eyes slowly from left to right to find where your subconscious becomes most activated based on eye position.
    3. 3Once you find the horizontal position, move eyes up or down to find the spot with greatest activation.
    4. 4Keep your eyes focused on that brainspot position, allowing your subconscious to take control.
    5. 5Engage with whatever comes up in a state of curiosity—allow your brain to process however it needs to, even if it doesn't make sense.
    6. 6Continue until you don't feel any more distress or activation at that eye position.
