    Light Stream Technique

The Light Stream Technique is a common technique used in many healing modalities that uses the power of imagination to direct healing energy to areas of the body holding tension, pain, or emotional distress.

The technique works by first identifying where distress is felt in the body, then imagining a stream of healing light flowing into that area, dissolving the discomfort. The visualization engages the mind-body connection to promote relaxation and release.

    How Light Stream Works

Focuses attention on somatic (body) experience of distress

Uses creative visualization to direct healing intention

Engages the brain's capacity for self-directed neuroplasticity

Creates a sense of agency and active participation in healing

Can be enhanced with bilateral stimulation for deeper processing

    The Visualization:

You choose a color of light that feels healing to you, imagine it entering your body (often through the top of the head), and direct it to flow toward areas of discomfort. The light is imagined to have special properties—warmth, healing, dissolving power—that transform tension into peace.

This technique is particularly useful when you can identify physical sensations connected to emotional distress, as it works directly with the body's experience rather than trying to change thoughts.

    Benefits

    • Directly addresses physical sensations of distress
    • Engages imagination as a healing resource
    • Creates sense of control over discomfort
    • Can be used independently once learned
    • Combines well with bilateral stimulation

    Things to Consider

    • There's no "right" color—trust your intuition about what feels healing.
    • The light can have any properties you want: warmth, coolness, sparkle, dissolving power.
    • If one area resolves, you can move to other areas of tension.
    • Some people see vivid imagery; others just get a sense of it. Both work.
    • If emotions arise, allow them—this is part of the releasing process.
    • Can be enhanced with bilateral stimulation. Learn about bilateral stimulation here

    Speed
    1. 1Settle into a comfortable position and take several slow, deep breaths.
    2. 2Scan your body and identify an area holding tension, pain, or uncomfortable sensation. Notice its size, shape, and qualities.
    3. 3If this sensation had a color, what would it be? Note the color.
    4. 4Now imagine a healing light. What color feels most healing to you right now? (There's no wrong answer.)
    5. 5Imagine this healing light entering through the top of your head, like a gentle stream or waterfall.
    6. 6Give this light special healing properties: perhaps it's warm, soothing, or has the power to dissolve discomfort.
    7. 7Direct the stream of light to flow toward the uncomfortable area. Imagine it surrounding and penetrating the tension.
    8. 8Visualize the healing light dissolving the discomfort, transforming its color, or washing it away.
    9. 9Continue until the area feels lighter, more relaxed, or until the uncomfortable sensation shifts.
    10. 10Optionally add bilateral stimulation (tapping knees alternately) while visualizing for enhanced effect.
    11. 11When complete, imagine the light filling your whole body with calm, then slowly open your eyes.
