    Mental and Emotional Release (MER)

A guided meditation of your life timeline that releases five specific emotions—anger, sadness, fear, hurt, and guilt—by working with gestalt patterns and visual dissociation. Read a more in-depth explanation to understand Mental and Emotional Release here.

    Benefits

    • A quick and effective way to make significant changes—simple to practice on your own
    • Releases emotions by disrupting gestalt patterns set by your first experience of each emotion
    • Uses visual dissociation to process without getting overwhelmed
    • Works with PTSD and phobias through movie theater visualization technique

    Why This Works

    • Our first experience of an emotion sets a gestalt pattern—releasing from the first disrupts all subsequent experiences.
    • Emotions can only be experienced in the present, and the brain can't distinguish reality from imagination—positioning before an event allows easier release.
    • Visual dissociation (floating above) enhances processing without overwhelm.
    • Release the five emotions in order: anger, sadness, fear, hurt, guilt (or shame and pain).

    Important Considerations

    • If an emotion won't release: go back further in time, ask if something needs to be learned first, or use height for more emotional distance.
    • For PTSD/phobias: visualize watching the event from a movie theater projector room in black and white, then enter the screen and play backwards in color.
    • If you can't imagine rising above your timeline, this method likely won't work for you.
    • The process can be done alone or guided by another person.

    Speed
    1. 1Picture your life timeline as a physical thing in your head—it can look however you want.
    2. 2Imagine yourself hovering above your timeline, then rising as high as you can while still seeing it.
    3. 3Float back to the first time you experienced a specific emotion (anger, sadness, fear, hurt, or guilt)—trust your subconscious knows where to go.
    4. 4Position yourself before the event happened on your timeline. Rate distress 0-10.
    5. 5Ask your subconscious to release all negative emotions. Wait until you can rate distress at 0.
    6. 6Float through your entire timeline repeating this for each event that comes up until you reach the present.
